Privacy Policy

Privacy by design
No third-party trackers
No ads, ever

We collect only what U-GO needs: how you swipe to build your result, any trip details you choose to add, and your email only if you ask for updates. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising.

Who we are

U-GO reads your travel instinct from how you swipe on images, and shows you destinations that fit you. We are the data controller responsible for the processing of your personal data described in this Privacy Policy.

What data do we collect?

Data you actively give us

  • Your email address, only if you sign up for our updates (the "inner circle"). We use it to send you updates, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Optional trip details you can add after swiping: budget range, travel period, trip length, and your departure country. These help us pick destinations within reach. You can skip them entirely.

Data recorded automatically while you swipe

  • Your swipe choices (yes/no per image)
  • Your reaction time per swipe, in milliseconds. This is invisible to you and is used only to read your instinct more accurately
  • Your destination result (the top-3 we show you)
  • Device type (mobile, tablet, or desktop)
  • How you reached us: if you arrive through an ad or a shared link, we record the campaign labels in the link (UTM tags) and the website you came from. We use this to see which channels work. It is tied to your anonymous session, never to your name or email

When you swipe with a crew

You pick a first name or nickname and can add a photo. Those are visible only to your crew, photos are stripped of location data on upload, and the whole lobby (names and photos) auto-deletes after 30 days. Still no account, no email, no phone.

What we do collect. If you add a departure country, we use only that country's approximate centre to gauge travel distance, never your precise location. Our hosting provider may process your IP address in standard server logs for security. To stop spam on our signup form, we briefly keep a one-way hash of your IP address; this cannot be turned back into your IP, is never linked to your swipes, and is deleted within a day. If you reach us through an ad or shared link, we record which campaign sent you and which site you came from, so we know what works.

What we don't do. We don't ask your name. We don't track your device location (GPS), we don't store your IP address to identify you or link it to your swipes, and we don't use cookies to follow you across other sites. No third-party analytics.

3
Why do we use your data?
  • To read your instinct and show you your destination result
  • To improve our scoring logic and swipe accuracy, using anonymised data
  • To send you updates, only if you signed up and gave your consent
4
Legal basis for processing
  • Consent: for sending you updates by email
  • Consent: for the crew name and crew photo you add when you start or join a crew
  • Legitimate interest: for improving our scoring logic using anonymised swipe data

A crew name and crew photo are yours to choose, and choosing them is the consent. A photo can be a place, an object, or your crew. If it has faces in it, that is personal data about everyone in it, so treat it the way you would treat posting it in the group chat. Anyone in the crew can remove the photo or leave, and the crew is deleted 30 days after the trip is revealed.

Accounts are not available yet. If we introduce them later, we will update this policy and add the matching legal basis (performance of a contract) before that feature goes live.

5
Do we share your data?

We never sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Our hosting provider, TransIP (Netherlands), where all data, including any email you give us, is stored
  • No one else: no advertising networks, no data brokers, and no third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics. The campaign measurement described above is our own, kept on our own servers within the EEA

All data is stored within the European Economic Area (EEA).

We may produce and share aggregated, anonymised insights, such as general travel patterns across many swipes, that cannot be traced back to any individual. Because these can no longer identify you, they are not personal data under the GDPR. We never sell or share anything that could identify you.

6
How long do we keep your data?
  • Anonymous swipe and session data, and campaign measurement: kept for as long as it is useful for analysis, such as spotting seasonal patterns and trends over the years. Because this data carries no name, email or IP, it cannot be traced back to you and is not personal data under the GDPR
  • Crew names and photos: auto-deleted after 30 days. The anonymous swipes and the shared result stay under the window above
  • Your email address: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it
7
Cookies

U-GO sets no advertising cookies and no third-party cookies, and uses no third-party analytics services. We do use one small first-party cookie called "screen_w", which stores your screen width so we can show the right layout and record whether you are on a mobile, tablet, or desktop. A strictly necessary cookie may also keep secured areas, such as our internal dashboard, logged in; it is never used to track visitors.

8
Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access: request what data we hold about you
  • Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure: ask us to delete your data
  • Restriction: ask us to limit processing of your data
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interest
  • Portability: request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent: unsubscribe from updates at any time

Contact us at hello@u-go.global. We will respond within 30 days.

9
Security

U-GO uses HTTPS encryption for all data transmission. Access to the database is restricted and protected, and we use prepared statements so your data can't be tampered with through the forms. We review our infrastructure regularly.

10
Minors

U-GO is intended for travellers aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have received data from someone under 18, please contact us at hello@u-go.global and we will delete it.
